19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's initial championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to force a third set.
He saved 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
